These trends are experiencing rapid development and creating incredible chances for financiers. I want to ensure all our readers are prepared for what's next. And with that in mind, let me draw the photo of what I see can be found in the next 12 months 1. 5G Gadgets Our new 5G (fifth-generation) wireless networks are a topic I've been covering for years now.
Even though the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains in 2015, a remarkable 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still offered. Particularly in the 2nd quarter, there were supply chain interruptions, producing hold-ups, and work stoppages. And all of this ultimately resulted in Apple postponing the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by 2 months.
When you think about all of that, selling 250 million systems is impressive. More importantly, the hold-ups triggered by the pandemic created a ton of pent-up demand. And that demand is now going to be pushed into 2021. In fact, I predict that more than 500 million 5G devices will be shipped in 2021.
Stage Three of 5G When I've spoken about 5G in the past, I have actually explained its three various stages. In Stage One, the infrastructure of these brand-new networks is built out, including all the new towers and fiber-optic wiring that 5G will require. In Stage Two, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Phase 3, 5G services start to be offered. That's when we start to see applications running on 5G networks. And my 2nd 5G forecast for 2021 is that we will start Phase Three by this summer season.
More and more customers will go out to buy a 5G phone to access these applications. 5G is going to open up a suite of unbelievable applications: self-driving automobiles, the Web of Things, robotic surgery, and more.
